Mix colors and explore the steps between them
The Color Mixer blends two HEX colors and displays the result alongside a sequence of intermediate colors. Use it to compare possible blends, inspect their HEX values and develop color ideas before adding them to a palette or interface.
How the color mixer works
Choose a color in each input using the color picker or enter the two HEX values you want to combine. The mixer calculates an equal, 50/50 blend and names the resulting color when a matching name is available.
The mix chart shows both selected colors and the blends between them. The variations control changes the interval between samples, so you can view a shorter overview or more intermediate steps. Each displayed HEX value can be copied for use elsewhere.
Mixing colors online
This tool creates digital blends by interpolating the red, green and blue channels of the two selected colors. At the midpoint, each input contributes equally; the surrounding steps progressively change the contribution of one color relative to the other.
RGB interpolation describes colors produced for screens. It is not a simulation of mixing physical paint, where pigments absorb light and can produce a different result even when the starting colors look similar.
Practical uses for color blends
A sequence of calculated blends can help when you need to compare options instead of guessing at a middle color.
- Explore intermediate colors between two known brand, illustration or data-visualization colors.
- Develop palette candidates that connect two colors and then copy the useful HEX values.
- Experiment with UI colors before incorporating the strongest candidates into a broader theme.
- Compare evenly spaced color transitions for gradients, states or sequential visual treatments.
- Color Harmonies: Find established color relationships around a selected hue.
- Color Wheel: Explore hues and harmony positions on an interactive wheel.
- Tints & Shades: Mix one color with white or black to build lighter and darker variations.
- Color Theme: Turn promising colors into a practical UI theme and export its values.
